1 July 2018. Haines AK

Week two – a little late – Prince Rupert BC to Haines AK – mostly via Ferry

The Garmin doesn’t track so well if you are asleep in your cabin without windows!

Here is a shot of the Haines Harbor with a rainbow! Maybe the rains will stop for awhile…

Harbor at Haines AK

Today we hit both State Parks near Haines, first Chilkat to the south, and then Chilkoot to the North (where we spent the night).  Chilkat was along the bay, while Chilkoot had its own lake (with a glacier on the far side) and a river to from the lake to the bay. The Salmon were just starting to be active on  this river. The people on the Weir counted 206 salmon the day we were there.  The numbers that they count get translated to how many fish the fishermen can catch… The Alaskans try to ensure they can preserve the salmon.
